The Westmoor herd of Beef Shorthorns has built up steadily since the first cows arrived in the early 1990s. These cows were mainly from the dairy or dual-purpose types trom the famous Otterington and Hauxwell herds. These were added to and crossed with Limousin and Belgian Blue bulls.
Although quality store cattle were being produced it was decided to start breeding these pedigree cattle pure and in 1995 our First Beef Shorthorn bull was purchased from Upsall.
Jungle Chief of Upsall was a white bull and bred very well on our red cows producing the mainstay of our herd.
In 1998 Leadeer of Craigeassie was purchased from the October bull sales. A roan bull out of a Parkfield cow by Scotsdale Tradition.
The herd has grown quite quickly over the last few years with an autumn calving herd started in 2001. We now have around 30 cows with followers aiming to supply quality breeding stock and prime beef all year round.
In the summer of 2004 Warpath of Upsall was brought to the herd. He was a very stretchy bull with a large frame and good topline who has left some good daughters in the herd.
In the spring of 2008 Glenisla Zetor was purchased at Perth.
He is by the successful Fearn Wyvis out of Glenisla Eva Broadhooks P429. He is a very powerful red bull with a trmendous temperament that has proved an excellent buy producing very consistant, growthy and easy fleshed offspring.
Alvie Bovill joined us in February. We are very excited with him and look forward to seeing how he works on the large number of Zetor daughters we now have in the herd.
